Canterbury Ladies Hockey Club is celebrating after scoring a deal from a local business.
For the second year running, EuroCanterbury Volkswagen will sponsor the team captained by double Olympian, Mel Clewlow.
Canterbury Ladies consists of six Great Britain international players and six junior internationals, along with South African double Olympian, Jen Wilson. According to captain Mel, Jen is likely to be a triple Olympian by 2012.
And with the count down to the Olympic year nearing, Canterbury Ladies are excited at the prospect of their facilities, at Polo Farm, being used by national training squads.
Mel, said: “We’re thrilled to have the support of EuroCanterbury, without their support it would not be possible for the team to have benefits such as new kit.
“We’re hoping the new sponsorship deal will bring us luck for the coming season, after narrowly missing out on European qualification last season.
“The squad is working hard to improve and go one step further this season and we have strengthened the squad by recruiting another two players from the London 2012 training squad.”
Chris Evans, EuroCanterbury’s sales manager, said: “We’re pleased to continue the sponsorship of a local and very successful team, which showcases some brilliant local and international talent.
“It is an exciting prospect that we could be sponsoring 2012 Olympians.
“Everyone at the retailer is proud of the ladies and will be attending matches to support and cheer them on.”
