Pupils aged between eight and 10 from Haddenham Community Junior School, were tasked by one of the country’s leading house builders, Persimmon Homes Thames Valley, to suggest names for the new site in Haddenham.
Ben Rose, aged 10, Casey Joyce, aged 10, Neeve Pullen, aged 10 and Lydia Scholey, aged 9, were picked out as winners for their suggestions Pilots Place, Hawker Field, Old Pilot Field and Hurricane Croft.
Elaine Stratford, Sales and Marketing Director at Persimmon Homes Thames Valley, presented the four winners with stationery packs and gave a £100 book voucher to headteacher Sue Roberts to thank them all for their hard work.
The winning suggestions are now being passed on to the local council to be considered as street names.
Elaine said: “The pupils have obviously worked very hard at this competition and the name suggestions were brilliant. Many of the ideas produced by the children gave us the creative inspiration for the final name Chilworth Gate – named after the former Chilworth Aerodrome.
“We are very proud of the way the competition helped to decide the name, as it’s important we link with local schools.
“We have contacted the local council to propose that the formal road names within the development would also be based on the aviation theme.”
Sue Roberts, headteacher of Haddenham Community Junior School, said: “It has been fantastic to get the children involved in a fun, but stimulating competition.
“It’s been enjoyable to work on the creation of a new development name and the pupils have had an opportunity to learn more about the housing industry.
“I can’t thank Elaine and everyone at Persimmon Homes enough for involving us in this project and I hope the link between us continues to grow.”
