Housebuilder pledges replacement primary school for local community

Premium housebuilder Charles Church has submitted a detailed planning application to Charnwood Borough Council.  The proposal, which was sent on the 3rd August, includes plans to build a replacement primary school in Rothley, which would have a larger capacity and improved facilities.

The purpose built school would replace the existing school on Mountsorrel Lane and would be a two form entry school with capacity for approximately 420 pupils instead of the current 370.

The replacement school would be part of the proposed Brookfield Farm development in Rothley, which would see 180 quality homes being built.  In addition, 16 homes are proposed on the existing primary school site.  If consented, it is hoped that work on the development could start in April next year.

Nigel Hainsworth, land director for Charles Church North Midlands, said: “One of the concerns raised by residents about the proposals for the recently consented development on Brookfield Farm was the impact on existing schools and whether there was capacity for additional pupils. Charles Church are delighted to announce their proposal to provide a replacement primary school as part of a Brookfield Farm development. The school would benefit the local community in Rothley by having increased space for more pupils and enhanced facilities such as new school sports pitches.”
