Two Suffolk businesses are advising motorists on how to avoid one of the most costly and unexpected vehicle repairs.
Wolsey Van Centre in Ipswich and Volkswagen Van Centre (Bury St Edmunds), Suffolk’s dedicated Volkswagen commercial vehicle sites, has seen an increase in van drivers who are shocked to find a cambelt failure could result in catastrophic engine damage and a bill in excess of £4,000.
To help motorists keep their vans on the road, the Volkswagen businesses are offering a FREE 29-point safety check on all vehicles, which includes tyres, brakes, steering and lights. Their trained staff will also be able to advise you exactly when a cambelt change will be due on your specific vehicle.
David Nichols, head of business at the Volkswagen Van Centre’s, said: “The cambelt system is one of a van engine’s hardest working components as it synchronises the engine timing, if it fails the damage is catastrophic.
“Recently we have experienced an increase in customers who didn’t realise how easy it was to avoid the potential damage a cambelt failure can cause and a replacement is considerably less than the engine repair bill.
“To protect yourself from unnecessary repair costs all cambelts are advised to be changed at a minimum of four year intervals or at scheduled mileage intervals which are also specific to the vehicle model.
“Our repairs are carried out by Volkswagen trained technicians. All mechanical repairs have the additional benefit a 2 year parts warranty (unlimited mileage) and 12 months or 12,000 miles labour guarantee.”
