Persimmon Homes Teesside has nearly finished the construction of a new three to five bedroom development in Hartlepool, but not before creating a comfortable home for a flock of nesting curlews!
The housebuilder legally acquired the land in Seaton Carew – an area of Hartlepool that has been earmarked for a £7 million regeneration scheme – and will open its marketing suite and showhome next month.
But the original construction plans for Persimmon’s Seaton Sands development had to be adapted following the discovery of curlews, which were nesting on dunes adjacent to the site. This species of bird are characterised by their long down-curved bills and brown plumage and can be often found nesting in the coastal areas of the British Isles.
Christine Cooper, sales and marketing director for Persimmon Homes Teesside, said: “We’re delighted with the progress made in Seaton Carew and to contribute towards what promises to be an exciting period of regeneration work for this area of Hartlepool.
“Of course, the discovery of these nesting curlews has meant we’ve had to adapt the original layout of the development to ensure their habitat is unaffected by future construction work.
“We’ve also timed the completion of certain construction jobs, such as the site’s main entrance road, to ensure there has been no unnecessary stress or disruption to the curlews. It’s just fortunate that making homes, regardless of specie, is what we do best!”
Persimmon believes that the homes that will be on offer at Seaton Sands would suit the needs of wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers, considering the sites proximity to the coast.
