Housebuilder Persimmon Homes has boosted Slough FC Striker, Dan Burnell’s, fundraising efforts to the tune of £300 as he prepares to take on the Brighton Marathon.
Dan is embarking on the 26 mile challenge with his father Chirs in memory of his Nan who was cared for at the Florence Nightingale Hospice in Aylesbury, before sadly passing away in June last year.
Dan says: “The Hospice is very close to mine and my dad’s hearts as they took such great care of my Nan during her illness. The whole family benefitted from the Hospice’s support when we needed it most and I am hoping that by running the marathon for them I will be able to help more families receive their help.
“I am delighted that Persimmon Homes has been able to support our efforts and thank them immensely for their generous donation.”
Elaine Stratford, sales director of Persimmon Homes Thames Valley, says: “When we heard about Dan and his father’s fantastic fundraising efforts we were only too happy to show our support. We worked with Florence Nightingale Hospice when the charity entered our 40th birthday competition to win a house last year but unfortunately did not progress to the final stages.
“My own mother also spent some of her last weeks at the Hospice who took great care of her, so the cause is also very close to my own heart and is entirely worthy of fundraising such as this. I will be giving a cheque to Dan for £100 myself to add to his fund.
“We hope that the total £300 donation will go some way to helping the charity continue its fantastic work helping those who are suffering from life-limiting illness.”

Persimmon Homes Thames Valley currently has developments in Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Middlesex and Berkshire, including Tutor’s Gate in Stoke Mandeville, close to the Florence Nightingale Hospice.
Comprising a selection of three and four bedroom houses Tutor’s Gate is located to the south of Aylesbury and offers good road links into Aylesbury town centre and access into London Marylebone in under an hour via Stoke Mandeville Station.
A range of offers and incentives are available at Tutors Gate to make the buying process as hassle free as possible, including the new Government-backed Help to Buy scheme which was announced during the budget speech on 20 March. The scheme is intended to make mortgages more readily available to people who cannot afford a large deposit and joins the existing, NewBuy, part exchange and other offers designed to help buyers secure a brand new home.
Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity, which provides comprehensive care and support to local families affected by life-limiting illness in Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire and parts of Oxfordshire, needs to raise over £600,000 this year to support essential in-patient and at-home Hospice services.
The £300 donation from Persimmon is the equivalent of two patients being able to attend the Lymphoedema Clinic, which costs approximately £100 per patient.
