A Shropshire based charity offering essential life skills to hundreds of primary school children each year has received a funding boost from a leading regional house builder.
Shrewsbury and Oswestry Crucial Crew successfully bid for the £250 community grant offered by Persimmon Homes North West. Youth clubs, sports teams and local organisations had been invited to apply for the cash giving details of how £250 would make a difference to them and their community efforts.
Shrewsbury and Oswestry Crucial Crew host a series special training days over a two week period every June, attended by up to 1,500 children from around 60 different primary schools in the area. The children receive social awareness and safety training as a means of teaching them essential life skills.
The children learn of the dangers of drugs, internet abuse and cyber bullying, stranger danger, the effects of hoax calls etc. As a result of attending, they are more confident in themselves and in a better position to make a positive contribution to their communities as they mature into junior citizens.
The event, held at Nescliffe Army Barracks, has been running for more than 18 years during which time more than 23,000 children have attended. The organisation was granted charity status in 2008.
David Hodgson, sales and marketing director for Persimmon Homes North West, said: “As a leading business working in the area, we are delighted to support the fantastic work of the Shrewsbury and Oswestry Crucial Crew.
“We are very much looking forward to coming along to one of the events this June when we will hand over the cheque, and see for ourselves some of the brilliant training activities as they are being delivered.”
