The man in a van is to be given a 21st century face-lift thanks to a new competition being run by a leading Derby van centre.
Imperial Commercials Volkswagen Van Centre wants students at the Queen Elizabeth Grammar School in Ashbourne to come up with innovative new designs for the side of a van to advertise a mobile business of their choice.
And the two lucky winners will be given free tickets to this year’s Ashbourne Show where they will get the chance to see their successful designs shown off for real on a Volkswagen van.
The van centre has joined forces with Year Nine students at the school to launch the competition which is aimed at boosting the youngsters’ design skills and interest in business.
David Starr, head of business at Imperial Commercials Volkswagen Van Centre, said: “This is a great way for youngsters to learn about design and take an interest in the business world. Educating teenagers about design at this age is an ideal way to encourage their talents.
“Vans are a moving advert for businesses. They advertise a company’s presence and act as an effective marketing tool and van wrapping is becoming increasingly popular”
The designs will be judged by Volkswagen Sales Manager, Adam Barrett, HR Manager, Emma Bulgin and the Regional Director, Matt Lawrenson on July 12.
“Young people have such vivid imaginations we are really looking forward to judging the designs and seeing which come out on top.”
The best two designs will appear full size on a new Volkswagen Transporter at the Ashbourne Show on August 17. In addition, each winner will be given three tickets to attend the show as well as a Volkswagen hoodie.
