Colchester development receives top building award

A site manager with leading regional builder Persimmon Homes Essex has scooped a top industry award for the second time.

Simon Gronland has been awarded an NHBC Pride in the Job Quality Award for his work overseeing the company’s stunning Nightingale Gardens development of two, three and four bedroom houses in Colchester.

The award recognises the highest standards of excellence, with National House-Building Council inspectors judging winners on meticulous and consistent attention to detail, quality of workmanship, excellent leadership, technical expertise and commitment to the highest health and safety standards.

Simon is no stranger to success, having first scooped the award for his work on another Persimmon development in 2006.

Simon said he was delighted to receive the accolade, having set his sights on the honour when he first started work at Nightingale Gardens.

“This was a goal we had in mind when we set the site up and everyone involved has done a terrific job to make sure we achieved our aim.

“I originally won the award for a development at The Poppies in Felsted when I first worked for Persimmon. I returned to the company last year and am delighted to win another one for Nightingale Gardens.”

Simon said his team had now completed about half of the development, which is designed around an impressive central lake.

Pete Watton, Regional Director for NHBC, the UK’s leading standards setter and warranty provider for new UK homes, said winning the award was a major achievement.

“Simon is at the top of the game, ensuring that the homes created are of the highest standards. Simon can be truly proud of this accolade.

“For over three decades, Pride in the Job has been a foundation of the NHBC’s work to improve housing standards, encouraging best practice on site. The homes our Quality Award winners have built are without doubt among the best in the UK.”

Nightingale Gardens is ideally-located for commuters, first time buyers and families alike as it boasts excellent transport links to amenities in Colchester’s town centre, and is a short distance from the A12, the trunk road for Chelmsford and London.

The site is also conveniently located for access to main railway lines providing services to London Liverpool Street.

The site was recently praised by the Mayor and Mayoress of Colchester, Councillors Colin and Laura Sykes, citing engagement with the local community as key to its success.

Speaking at the opening of the show home, Councillor Colin Sykes said: “We are extremely pleased to open this new development and have been involved with Persimmon for quite a few years.

“In many ways Persimmon has done what the ward council has been trying to do by taking the initiative and engaging with residents before development. Persimmon was the first developer in Stanway to talk to us, the residents and the Parish council to gain full support before commencing.

“Thanks to this approach, there were no objections at all through the planning committee and everyone in the area is really positive about welcoming Persimmon Homes to Stanway, and the much-needed homes at Nightingale Gardens.”

There are a range of incentives in place to help buyers on to the property ladder at Nightingale Gardens including, Newbuy, Help to Buy and the Persimmon Homes Part Exchange Scheme.
