An eleven year old from Haddenham Community junior school is flying-high this week after finding out the council have chosen his road name to feature on the new Persimmon Homes development near Aylesbury.
Ben Rose, aged 11, came up with the name ‘Pilots Place’ and was chosen as a winner by the leading Thames Valley housebuilder in a competition they ran with the school last year in conjunction with the launch of its Chilworth Gate development in Haddenham.
Persimmon put forward their chosen winners to Aylesbury Vale District Council who made a final decision on formal road names around the development earlier this year.
Ben was invited to come and see the road sign in situ by site manager Hedley Jackson and sales manager Julie Vine. He was delighted to know that his suggestion will be forever preserved in his local village of Haddenham and said he was excited to see the finished sign on site.
He added: “I suggested Pilots Place because we had talked in class about how the space used to be an airfield, and I wanted to come up with a street name that related to the history of the area.”
Elaine Stratford, sales and marketing director at Persimmon Homes Thames Valley, said: “All of the pupils worked really hard at this competition last year and the name suggestions were brilliant. We could not be more pleased that one of our winners was picked by the council as it will be something Ben can remember for years to come and strengthens our link with the local community.”
In addition to seeing his chosen name on the roadside for years to come, Ben will also be taking to the air as bosses at Persimmon have treated him to a flight over the local area.
