A team of 14 volunteers from legal firm Higgs & Sons have created an outdoor seaside learning garden for pupils at Hob Green Primary School in Stourbridge.
Working in partnership with a team from food and drink specialist AF Blakemore & Son Limited, the group planted palm trees, painted a beautiful mural, built two sandpit boats and purchased play shops, picnic tables and seaside learning materials to create a truly unique and fun area for the children to play and learn in.
Nyree Applegarth, a partner at the law firm, managed the project, supported by a team of volunteers. She said: “We were really keen to help out with this gardening project and put our green fingers to good use. The area of land we have transformed was very sparse and provided little by way of inspiration for the children to learn and develop.
“We wanted to provide the pupils from Hob Green Primary with a sensory filled space that enables them to enjoy a bright, colourful seaside area, even if the sea is many miles away.”
The school’s Headteacher, Stuart Brown, said: “The whole school and its wider community are so grateful to Nyree and her team from Higgs and A F Blakemore. They have made a real difference to our fantastic school. Hob Green Primary School has a vast amount of land but unfortunately doesn’t have the funds to develop it.
“Nyree has worked hard planning and organising this project and has delivered a spectacular seaside paradise for our children to both work and play in. We are all extremely grateful.”
