A car technician from St Helens is celebrating after completing an intensive training programme positioning him as an expert in his field.
Lyndon Smith recently gained his master technician status after working his way through the Volkswagen Academy training programme through his role at Corkills Volkswagen.
After a rigorous three weeks of intense training and a full day of practical examinations, the 42 year old passed the qualifications with flying colours receiving a remarkable 100% score on the exams.
Lyndon joined Corkills Volkswagen in 2008 with over 25 years of experience working within the motor industry. Having begun his career at the age of 16 as a Service Technician, he swiftly progressed to the role of Qualified Technician in his previous role with Nissan. It was only when he joined Corkills Volkswagen that he decided to take on the Master Technician qualification.
Commenting on the passing course, Lyndon said: “I’m thrilled to have gained the qualification, it involved a lot of hard work but it is what I have been aiming towards my whole career, and it feels great to know that I’ve reached the top. Achieving top marks is just the icing on the cake!
“We are working on some very high tech cars and it’s important to have a thorough understanding of each one to be able to offer the very best service to customers.”
Corkill Volkswagen’s brand manager Jacqui Kaye said: “Master technicians are an elite band of Volkswagen’s most talented and experienced technicians.
“Their knowledge is second-to-none and having Lyndon on board is great news for customers and the rest of technicians in the department.” She added: “It costs Volkswagen £100,000 to train a technician to master technician status, and Lyndon was without a doubt definitely worth the investment.
