Leading luxury housebuilder Charles Church has created brand new homes in Abergavenny for local people and for protected wildlife.
The housebuilder, who have just opened an exclusive new development called Ty Mawr on the outskirts of the village of Gilwern in the beautiful Monmouth countryside, has been working with the local community to assist in the preservation and conservation of bats and other wildlife in the area.
A pre-development survey showed an active presence of the Pipistrelle and the Brown Long-Eared bat families using buildings and trees to roost, and hedgerows and nearby woodland to commute and feed.
Bats often commute along well defined flight-lines, and any disruptions to these can lead to the loss or reduction in the bat population so working with a local ecologist, Charles Church have implemented several measures to ensure the bat population is sufficiently protected.
This included building a variety of self-contained bat boxes which have been discretely attached to some exterior walls around the development with plenty of room for bats to roost.
Sharon Robinson, sales director at Charles Church East Wales, said: “Here at Charles Church we take our environmental responsibilities very seriously and we are passionate about designing homes that are sensitive to the environment and native wildlife.
“We regularly work with communities across the region to assist in the preservation and conservation of wildlife and this is part of what we are doing at our Ty Mawr development.
“The number of British bats has sadly been in decline since the 1950’s, but with our help it is hoped that they will begin to increase in number once again. Living at Ty Mawr you’ll be doing your bit to help protect British bats – and you’d never know these delightful creatures were even there.”
The beautiful Charles Church Ty Mawr development, which opened for the first time at the beginning of July, is located just a few miles away from Abergavenny and has a choice of three and four bedroom homes, all finished to the highest standards and specifications.
It is the ideal location for anyone who prefers the peace and quiet of rural village life without being too far from modern facilities and conveniences.
Nestled between seven hills, the nearest town of Abergavenny is truly the gateway to Wales. It is a very popular and vibrant town, offering a variety of shops, public houses, a primary school, as well as busy markets and lots of annual festivals.
