Sponsorship deal boosts Cheshire club

A leading Cheshire rugby union club has received a boost after landing a new sponsorship deal.

Sandbach Rugby Club, which prides itself on being strictly amateur, is being sponsored by Crewe Volkswagen for the 2013/14 season.

The deal will ensure the club can continue to develop youngsters within the 12 junior teams.

Simon Verbickas, the club coach, said: “This sponsorship will be used to support all levels and age groups at the club.

“We currently have over 550 players of all ages playing most weekends and if we are to continue being a completely amateur club, we need support from local businesses like Crewe Volkswagen.

“What’s important is our ethos of developing youngsters and giving them a platform to continue playing, either in our different teams or professionally.

“Indeed four of our ex-junior players played for Sale Sharks in the Premiership last season.”

Ben Gilbert, Crewe Volkswagen’s brand manager, said: “We believe it’s important to show our support to local groups that serve our community and Sandbach Rugby Club is a prime example of this.

“We’re looking forward to watching the various teams’ progress throughout the forthcoming season and continue to provide an excellent sporting amenity for Cheshire youngsters.”

As well as seeing their name and logo printed on the first team shirts, Crewe Volkswagen can look forward to this Saturday’s home sponsorship match against Scunthorpe, kick off 3pm.

Captain Will Stockdale said: “We did the double over Scunthorpe last season, so we’re optimistic of a good result this week.”
