A young apprentice at Plymouth Volkswagen is celebrating after being named top of his class.
Trainee parts advisor Mitch Bonner, 20, beat off stiff competition to become Volkswagen First Year Apprentice of the Year.
He received a framed certificate from Stephen Butt, Head of Service & Parts at Volkswagen UK, in a ceremony at the Millbay Road dealership last week.
Mitch said: “I was really proud to win the award – although now I’m into my second year it is a bit more of a challenge.
“I had no idea that I was even up for the award, so it was quite a surprise, but a really good one.”
Mitch, from Plymouth, joined Volkswagen in August 2012. His aunt already worked there and suggested he apply for an apprenticeship.
“I had a bit of an insight because of my aunt working here, and it has definitely proved the right move for me. There’s a good mix of on the job experience and classroom work and I am really enjoying it. Winning this award is just the icing on the cake.”
Mitch was praised for his commitment, motivation, enthusiasm and effort.

Mitch receives his day to day training and guidance from his Plymouth manager, parts supervisor Mike Bailey.
Outside of work, he enjoys watching football, going to the cinema and has recently joined a gym.
