Persimmon Homes has submitted a new planning application in a bid to get construction re-started at a stalled Bedfordshire development.
The Home Farm site at Lodge Road in Cranfield has been dormant since May 2012, after negotiations between Persimmon and another landowner failed to reach agreement.
Judith Potter, deputy managing director for Persimmon Homes Midlands, said: “Following lengthy discussions with key stakeholders including Central Bedfordshire Council, our planning consultants, Pegasus Group, have submitted an application to vary some of the obligations attached to the planning consent for this site, in order for construction to recommence.
“A number of obligations within the current planning agreement, granted back in 2007, are now effectively preventing the development from being delivered in a timely manner, a situation which is unsatisfactory for Persimmon, the council and the village of Cranfield.
“Notwithstanding the variations being sought now, if we are able to proceed with the development, the village would benefit from the provision of many new affordable homes (28 per cent of the total), open spaces and play areas, as well as financial contributions totalling more than £430,000, which would be paid to the council prior to the occupation of the 50th home.
“Persimmon Homes remains committed to delivering much-needed sustainable new homes, community facilities and open space at Cranfield and we welcome the opportunity to re-engage with the council and community to find a mutually acceptable resolution to the current situation.”
A total of 371 homes are planned for the Home Farm development but, although works commenced in 2011, Persimmon Homes has been unable to sell any properties or continue with the development without the co-operation of the other landowner.
Members of the public are invited to submit their comments on the application to Central Bedfordshire Council before 28th February 2014.
