Three Volkswagen balloons have been found on the island of Borkum in Germany after floating over 680 miles.
The balloons, supplied by Wigan car retailer Corkills Volkswagen, were handed out to children at the German Classics Car Show held at Haigh Hall in Wigan on 3rd August.
The balloons were three of many handed out that day and employees at the dealership were astonished to receive an email from a gentleman called Gernot Diekjobst confirming that he had found the balloons on a beach in Borkum in Germany.
Speaking of the email, Jacqui Kaye, brand manager at Corkills Volkswagen, said “It was a huge surprise to find that our balloons had travelled all that way and with Volkswagen being one of Germany’s biggest brands, it was a real coincidence, almost as if they’d flown home.”
In his email Gernot said that when he realised that the balloons had travelled all the way from England it had made his day and he wanted to tell Corkills how far they had flown, he said: “On Tuesday 19th August, I found 3 white balloons in Borkum, Germany, on the beach of the North Sea Island.
“I was pleased to have found a message from England.”
The Corkills branded balloons were given out to members of the public at a number of events that the dealership was involved in to raise money for local charity, the Wigan & Leigh Hospice.
As well as promoting their dealership and collecting donations for the hospice at the Haigh Hall German Motor show, the dealership also donated £100 worth of tickets to slide down a giant water chute through Wigan town centre later in the month.
