A Liverpool business has expanded its apprenticeship programme aimed at providing further opportunities for youngsters to start a rewarding career in the automotive industry.
Jamie Karmellhi, 20, accepted the first trainee service advisor role at Liverpool Van Centre and will embark on a two year apprenticeship scheme.
The Volkswagen commercial vehicle business has managed various apprenticeships and trainee positions for a number of years but the latest post is a brand new role, supported by the Volkswagen Training Academy.
John Kilby, aftersales manager at Liverpool Van Centre, said: “We have operated a comprehensive training programme for many years which is aimed at bringing new blood into the industry.
“We therefore feel there needs to be a clear training framework to help nurture and develop the right skills for these individuals. After all, they are our experts of the future.
“We are very pleased to be one of the first van centres in the Volkswagen network to offer this apprenticeship and are delighted to welcome Jamie to the team.
“His ‘can-do’ approach was instantly evident at his interview and this is an essential skill for providing the high level of customer service that we expect.”
As part of the apprenticeship, Jamie will attend a series of workshops and assessments covering customer facing skills including body language and problem solving plus in-depth product and brand knowledge.
Speaking of his appointment, Jamie said; “I am so please to be on the apprenticeship programme. I feel it’s a great opportunity to develop my career in an industry that really interests me.”
