A Somerset village shop has seen an increase in sales after showcasing its items in a regional developer’s new show home.
The shop called ‘One World’ in South Petherton worked with Persimmon Homes South West to help furnish the house at the Farley Fields development in St Michael’s Gardens. Among the items that were provided by the store’s owner, Nancy McMillan, were mirrors, tables and a pair of carved elephants.
Since the items went on show Nancy, who has run the business for 18 years, says she has seen an increase in footfall to her shop and praised the development for helping put the village on the map.
She said: “Some of the sale advisors came down from Farley Fields into South Petherton and were saying they wanted to decorate the show house.
“I offered to lend them items for the property and they put notes on the items telling people where they could purchase them. Since then I have seen more people coming to the shop and more people putting requests in for my stock.
“I have had to put more orders into my supplier to meet the demand. Because my stock is in the show home it is directing people to the village and those who thought South Petherton was just a place with one pub and a greengrocers will see it is a lot more than that so it is good news for all.”
Rene Kilner, sales advisor for Persimmon Homes South West, said; “The furniture provided by Nancy is beautiful and fits perfectly for our homes.
“We wanted to decorate our home with items sourced locally as well as building stronger links with the existing community. We have found South Petherton to be a warm and welcoming place and we are delighted that we have helped support the local economy.”
Farley Fields is offering two to four bedroom homes with prices starting from £159,995.
It was selected for its links to larger settlements Yeovil and Taunton while sitting in an enviable location in the beautiful Somerset countryside.
