Approval of Reserved Matters for 495 new homes at Ebbsfleet Garden City has been secured thanks in part to robust design and landscape detail.
Leading development consultancy Pegasus Group delivered Design and Landscape services on behalf of Taylor Wimpey and Clarion Housing in the latest parcel of development contributing to 15,000 high quality new homes that make up the 21st century Garden City community.
John Armstrong, an urban designer based at Pegasus Group’s Bristol office, said: “All aspects of design play a fundamental part of the development process. It is about making places that respond to planning, architectural, environmental and engineering objectives in an integrated way.
“We are extremely pleased to secure permission at Ebbsfleet. This was the culmination of more than three year’s hard work, with the design of the development proposals strongly influenced by local context. The architectural approach and resulting design character was developed in collaboration with officers at the Ebbsfleet Development Corporation and reflects the historic character of the existing settlements whilst integrating with the built development at Castle Hill.
“The application submissions were supported by detailed drawings of features such as the parapet walls, window projections, entrance porches and projecting brickwork which are integral to the bespoke design of the development and demonstrating how these features would be constructed to provide a guarantee that the design quality would follow through from the planning stages to construction on site.”
Ebbsfleet Development Corporation was set up by the Government to speed up delivery of up to 15,000 homes. It works with local authorities and local communities to develop a shared vision for the area, providing high quality, attractive and sustainably-constructed housing as well as opportunities to work with an ambition to create 30,000 jobs.
The latest planning permission was for 332 homes and parking with associated landscaping, infrastructure and earthworks for Taylor Wimpey and 163 homes for Clarion Housing, also with parking with associated landscaping, infrastructure and earthworks.
The two parcels are located within the Castle Hill Central and Castle Hill South Area Master Plans and Castle Hill Central Design Codes. Both applications were the subject of extensive pre-application and post application consultation.
