More than 50 jobs are being created in Coventry as a major provider of building supplies, equipment and tools continues its expansion around the UK by opening in the city.
Selco Builders Warehouse is preparing to open its second new branch of 2015 – and its 37th in total in the UK – on Austin Drive in Court House Green.
The new branch will officially open in July but the recruitment process is currently in full swing.
The opening comes as a significant economic boost to the local community, with virtually all staff expected to be employed from the Coventry area into a variety of jobs and with opportunities to progress their careers and skills in the future.
Chris Cunliffe, Chief Executive of Selco Builders Warehouse, said: “We are thrilled to be opening in Coventry and this will be a major boost to the local economy.
“Our policy has always been to employ as many people as possible from the branch’s local community and that will certainly be the case in Coventry.
“We have already had a lot of interest in the positions and the staff we are recruiting will be given career opportunities and a chance to extend their skill-set at Selco.
“It’s also a significant boost to tradesmen working in and around Coventry as they will be able to enjoy the benefits of Selco’s three guarantees that underpin our entire offering – unrivalled availability with the widest range of products in stock, excellent customer service and straight trade pricing.”
The opening will further strengthen Selco’s strong links with the Midlands. Its central support unit and six other branches are based in and around Birmingham while a partnership with Warwickshire Cricket Club has also just been launched for the 2015 and 2016 seasons.
It also continues the nationwide growth of Selco, which has seen its number of branches increase seven-fold over the last 15 years. Coventry will be Selco’s 37th branch, with more to open later this year.
“Selco Builders Warehouse is enjoying tremendous success, despite the tough economic conditions we have experienced in recent years, particularly in the building industry,” added Chris.
“We have embarked on an ambitious growth strategy which has enabled us to cater for and serve the needs of our customers whilst creating hundreds of jobs.
“We are constantly working on new sites across the UK and we will be looking to open more Selco branches throughout the rest of 2015 and over the next few years.”
Brian Kemp, who is the Branch Manager at Selco Coventry, said: “It’s a very exciting period as we continue to prepare for the opening over the next few months.
“We have already received a lot of very impressive applications for the positions from the local community and we are in the process of recruiting a very strong team.
“We look forward to welcoming new and existing Selco customers into our branch.”
The new Coventry branches will offer an extensive range of building materials, drainage, roofing, heating, plumbing and electrical products, a range of timber including a bespoke cutting service, doors and windows, ironmongery and fixings, decorating supplies, landscaping and fencing items as well as kitchen and bathroom showrooms plus Selco’s latest new initiative tool and plant hire.
As with all Selco branches, there will be an in-branch café, trade counter services, direct-to-site delivery options and van size parking spaces, all designed to make it easier for tradespeople to get onto the job as soon as possible.
