The Birmingham Law Society’s law firm of the year, Higgs & Sons, has advised on the merger of two of the region’s leading property consultants Bigwood with Curry & Partners to create the largest independent property practice in Birmingham.
Bigwood, with a 160-year heritage in the Midlands and a number of agencies in the area, has merged with Curry & Partners, a Birmingham firm of chartered surveyors and property management consultants.
The merged business known as CP Bigwood creates an £8 million turnover firm with 125 staff and more than £2.5 billion worth of property under its management. Rory Daly and Nigel Curry are joint managing partners.
Higgs’ corporate partner Susheel Gupta led the legal team advising CP Bigwood. He is a merger and structuring specialist. He said: “Having worked closing with Rory and Nigel over the last few months it is clear CP Bigwood brings together two strong management teams who can now provide the full spectrum of property services to their growing client base.”
Rory Daly said: “In addition to now having one of the largest independent auction houses outside London we have also created one of the largest independent property consultancy businesses in the regions.”
Nigel Curry commented: “Following the merger we now have the platform to really grow particularly on the property management side which is very exciting for all involved.”
As well as property management and auctions, CP Bigwood provides the full range of professional services including commercial and residential agency, lettings, valuations, surveying, building and development consultancy and town planning.
2011 is so far proving to be an excellent year for Higgs & Sons, with the firm’s corporate department enjoying one of its busiest years. The firm was awarded Law Firm of the Year by the Birmingham Law Society in March and was recently shortlisted for Regional Law Firm of the Year in the Lawyer Awards.
