Young rugby players in Weston-super-Mare are celebrating the New Year in style thanks to the support of Persimmon Homes Severn Valley.
Hornet RFC Mini sections have become the latest group to be given a £1,000 cash injection by the regional builder as part of its year-long initiative to support local communities.
The club encourages children aged 5-12 from across North Somerset to live a healthier and more active lifestyle in an inclusive and safe environment.
Coach, Charlotte Sexton, said: “This is fantastic news. We are extremely grateful to Persimmon Homes for this generous donation.
“The money will make a huge difference as it will go towards new training equipment and a kit for the team. We’ve already raised some money through a Halloween disco, but it’s unfair asking the parents to chip in all the time it does get expensive.”
Nicola Reed, sales and marketing director for Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, said: “With a number of our developments taking shape across the region, we’re thrilled to be supporting such a great local group like Hornet RFC Mini section.
“Rugby has an important role to play in fostering community spirit locally and we look forward to continuing our association with the club and we wish them every success for the future.”
The Community Champions initiative is a national programme where charities and groups can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves. Nationwide the company will donate a total of £750,000.
