Already known as one of Birmingham’s top Valentine’s Day destinations, The Cube has upped the romance this year by introducing a Poet in Residence.
There will also be chance for a local amateur poet to win a romantic break in The Cube’s luxurious Hotel Indigo and dinner at Marco Pierre White.
Performance poet and former Worcestershire Poet Laureate Fergus McGonigal has been commissioned to create an ‘Ode to Birmingham’, a love poem incorporating details of people in The Cube on Sunday 14th February.
The renowned rhyme-smith will tour all of the restaurants and bars in the iconic building, as well as Hotel Indigo and the Club & Spa. He will meet customers and staff, experiencing the wide range of food available and gathering romantic moments to include in his poem, which will be performed live in The Cube’s Atrium at 8.15pm.
Derek Rossenrode, general manager of The Cube, said: “Wonderful restaurants like Marco Pierre White, Rodizio Rico and Shogun Teppan-yaki make The Cube a popular Valentine’s destination for the city’s couples – and we always have at least one proposal of marriage to celebrate.
“This year we wanted to create a little extra romantic magic and a love poem seemed the ideal way to show how much we enjoy sharing this special date with our guests.”
Kidderminster-based McGonigal is a former poet laureate of Worcester and is known for his whimsical use of language and lively performances. Samples of his work can be found at www.fergusthepoet.com
Those inspired by the romance of February to pen their own verses can enter The Cube’s poetry competition.
Members of the public are invited to submit an amorous poem of no more than 500 words to team@brookfielddigital.co.uk, for chance to win a Sunday Stay and Dine package.
