Family run company Scotts of Thrapston has received a notable award in recognition of its support for the local community.
Scotts of Thrapston chairman David Scott, together with his son and director, James Scott, welcomed The High Sheriff of Northamptonshire, Dr Ahmed Ibrahim Mukhtar, to their premises on Bridge Street in Thrapston to be presented with the esteemed High Sheriff award.
The award was given in recognition of the company’s long-standing support of the Thrapston community, notably the local fire service. Scotts has had a presence in Thrapston for more than 95 years and for many decades has supported fire crews by employing several retained firefighters. In 2011 Thrapston fire service’s new engine was named after David’s wife Sandra Scott.
Third generation Scott family member David was delighted to have been considered worthy of the High Sheriff’s award but said it was business as usual: “It is very humbling to be selected by the High Sheriff as one of the businesses he has chosen to recognise this year. We have always considered ourselves to be a part of the Thrapston community and many of our employees live close to our site. We are still a family business after almost a century of trading and we continue to have family values that spread throughout the company.
“This award, in recognition for our contribution to the local community, is for everyone here at Scotts not least for the retained firefighters themselves for the fantastic work they do, and also for their colleagues, whose support and understanding is invaluable.”
