Two solicitors at Midlands’ law firm Higgs & Sons Solicitors have been accepted as members of the national association ‘Solicitors for the Elderly’ (SFE).

Claire Whittall and Richard Stone have each received full professional member status of the SFE further strengthening Higgs’ private client team which is already the largest in the West Midlands.

Richard, who joined the firm in 2015, has also been awarded the ‘SFE older client care in Practice Award’ to sit alongside his solicitors for the elderly (SFE) qualification.

Claire is part of the dedicated care and capacity team alongside fellow SFE member Philip Martin-Summers, who sits on the Birmingham regional committee. As a specialist Court of Protection Solicitor, and now a member of the SFE, Claire deals specifically with matters where mental capacity is questioned. This often involves making applications for deputyship orders to the Court of Protection as well as supporting families through the legalities of powers of attorney, long-term social and health care, wills and other retirement issues.

Nick Moxon, Senior Partner at Higgs & Sons and head of its private client team said: “This is a growing area of expertise for Higgs and Claire and Richard’s membership shows our commitment to this expanding area of law.

“Higgs has a commitment to excellence in looking after all clients but in particular older clients and those who are more vulnerable. We celebrate Claire and Richard’s success.”

The SFE is an association of lawyers who specialise in legal services for older people and their carers. Members have a wealth of experience within this key legal area and they are required to have spent a substantial amount of time working for elderly clients.
