Professor Stephen Hawking was a truly inspirational individual, a genius of our generation.
This morning he passed away aged 76 after decades of living with a rare form of motor neurone disease which left him in a wheelchair and largely unable to speak without the use of a synthesiser.
Doctors gave him just two years to live when he was diagnosed at the age of 21, and 55 years later, he is one of most famous scientists ever, world renowned for his discoveries.
We remember Stephen Hawking with our five favourite quotes from the man himself:
“Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet.”
“It would not be much of a universe if it wasn’t home to the people you love.”
“Life would be tragic if it weren’t funny.”
“My expectations were reduced to zero when I was 21. Everything since then has been a bonus.”
“Quiet people have the loudest minds.”
R.I.P Stephen.
