One such client who has trusted us with their community giving is London-based DIY and decorating specialist Leyland.

Leyland was keen to support a school in London with £5,000 worth of product, helping them to make a tangible difference to their facilities. But with more than 3,000 schools in London, how could they choose one worthy winner and a runner-up?

Big School Makeover was born – and it delivered spectacularly.

Eye-catching creative signed-off, the campaign was launched with parents in the capital urged to nominate their school by explaining why they deserved the prize.

A press release was issued to all news outlets in London, backed up by organic and paid social media, leading to a fantastic 500 entries.

From there, a team of judges at Leyland got to work to whittle the entries down to a top 10. Though undoubtedly a tough job, this engaged colleagues with the campaign and helped them feel part of the process.

The next step was a public vote. Our IT specialists helped Leyland to launch a webpage allowing parents and Londoners to log on and vote for their favourite school once a day over the course of a month.

We provided the finalist schools with graphics and suggested social media copy to help them drive votes, spreading the name of Leyland far and wide.

More than 10,000 votes were cast over the period with schools driving the publicity themselves in newsletters, parent apps and on their websites.

Winning school

Latchmere School in Kingston were the eventual winners of the top prize – and they’ve already set to work to make real improvements to their building.

In all, Big School Makeover achieved over 20 pieces of coverage and hundreds of social media interactions, as well as leaving a lasting impression amongst the parents of the children of all the schools involved. It’s inevitable that many will become regular customers at Leyland in the years to come.

And it doesn’t stop there – in the next couple of months our videography team will be visiting Latchmere to see what they have done with their prize money.
