Increasing carousel images

Instagram is exploring ways to enhance brand content creation with a pilot programme testing an expanded carousel feature. This feature allows select users to include more than 10 images (the current limit) in a single post.

By testing with a small group, Instagram can gather valuable user feedback and gauge potential impacts on brand storytelling and audience engagement. This could significantly shift how brands utilise carousels to showcase products, present behind-the-scenes glimpses, or develop more intricate narratives.

Mentioning specific carousel content

Instagram has also rolled out a new feature that enhances user interaction with carousel posts – targeted commenting. Now, users can pinpoint specific content within a carousel using the “@” symbol followed by the slide number. This seemingly simple addition offers the following advantages for brands:

Previously, comments on Carousels could be ambiguous when referring to specific slides. Targeted commenting creates a more precise dialogue, ensuring both users and brands understand exactly which content is being discussed.

Finding relevant comments becomes easier for users. Imagine scrolling through a product showcase carousel and seeing comments directly tied to each slide – a clear path to engage with specific details.

Enhanced brand communication

Targeted comments open doors for more focused brand interaction. Respond directly to user questions or feedback for each slide, creating a personalized and engaging experience.

New story design

Instagram is also testing a Facebook-style Story revamp. Rectangular thumbnails replace circular icons, increasing Story real estate but potentially reducing visible feed content. This design mirrors Facebook Stories, raising questions about platform convergence and content discovery.

Promo codes

In a further update, Instagram is upping the ante for in-app shopping. Globally launched “Ads with Promo Codes” lets brands offer targeted discounts directly in ads. Users see codes from beloved brands, automatically applied at checkout or readily available for copy-paste. This seamless experience incentivises purchases and strengthens brand loyalty, blurring the lines between organic content and advertising.

Instagram creator updates

Finally, Instagram is testing new machine learning-based recommendations that utilise Instagram data to help brands discover creators who best fit their campaigns. These recommendations will be available to eligible brands on Instagram’s creator marketplace in Meta Business Suite over the coming months.

To facilitate partnerships between brands and creators, Instagram is also expanding its creator marketplace to eight new markets, including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Japan, India, Brazil, and Chinese export brands.
