A prominent Manchester business is undertaking a £250,000 expansion programme – and has insisted on using local companies for all of the work.
Manchester Volkswagen Van Centre, in Trafford Park, plans to create a four-van showroom to show off to the full and ever expanding range of Volkswagen products that it sells.
While sticking to its core commercial products the increase in the manufacturer’s lifestyle vehicles, including the new campervan, California, means it now requires far more showroom space.
Jim Hobson, Manchester Volkswagen Van Centre’s head of business, said the work would involve creating a two storey building by means of a mezzanine.
“This will allow us to move people currently working on the ground floor to the upper level therefore giving us far more showroom space,” he said.
“We have outgrown the existing showroom because of the variety of new vehicles now coming from Volkswagen, particularly with the increase of lifestyle vehicles like the California campervan.”
All the work carried out on the premises has been contracted to local companies.
“It’s our belief that Greater Manchester businesses should support each other,” he said.
Construction work is expected to take around 10 to 12 weeks and when complete the company will be increasing its Saturday business hours to give customers more flexibility to view the new vehicles.
Mr Hobson added: “This investment demonstrates our commitment to providing businesses, van drivers and lifestyle customers in Manchester with the highest standard Volkswagen facility.
“The new showroom has a contemporary design and is in line with Volkswagen’s corporate identity.”
