Pupils from a Wiltshire Primary school have been rewarded after helping to provide the name of a new housing development.
The Year six class from Zouch Primary School, aged from ten to eleven, were tasked by one of the country’s leading house builders, Persimmon Homes South Coast to suggest names for the new site in Tidworth.
Two children who provided names closest to the new development were each rewarded with a WHSmith £20 voucher, while the class received a £200 voucher.
Ellie-May Daws, aged eleven, from Tidworth, suggested Todeorde Meadows, while Jade Cummins aged ten, suggested Kelk Meadows as both girls related the site of the new development next to the beautiful set of meadows.
These innovative names helped Persimmon South Coast to decide on the name Riverbourne Meadows.
Kevin Parker, headteacher of Zouch Primary School, said: “It has been fantastic to get the children involved in a fun, but stimulating competition.
“It’s been enjoyable to work on the creation of a new development name and the pupils have had an opportunity to learn more about the housing industry.
“We are sincerely grateful for our vouchers that will go towards providing the pupils with a variety of reading and writing material.”
Rob Allen, sales director of Persimmon South Coast, was delighted with the feedback and the way the pupils set about the task.
He said: “The pupils have obviously worked very hard at this competition and the name suggestions were brilliant.
“We tested the pupils to bring a creative flair to their name suggestions and they have risen to the challenge and done an excellent job.
“Many of the ideas produced by the children gave us the creative inspiration for Riverbourne Meadows, but the suggestions from Ellie-May and Jade were closest to the name chosen.
“While we didn’t use any of the names suggested, Persimmon is very proud of the way the competition helped to decide the name, as it’s important we link with local schools and colleges.”
Kevin added: “I can’t thank Rob and everyone at Persimmon Homes South Coast enough for involving us in this project and I hope the link between us continues to grow.”
