Many people nearing retirement look forward to a rest and focusing more time on hobbies, but one Southport man is refusing to slow up despite clocking up 40 years’ of service, all with the same company.
Glyn Lloyd, who recently celebrated his 65th birthday, embarked on his career in 1972 as an apprentice technician.
Since then he has worked in various roles within the business, but has always remained at Corkills Volkswagen, which has retailers in both Southport and Wigan.
Glyn now specialises as group parts manager covering both sites, and puts the reasons for staying down to the friendly team and an evolving brand that has kept him interested.
Glyn said: “I’ve made a lot of friends, seen a lot of faces come and go and seen new models launched but I’ve never felt the need to move on and feel lucky to have always worked with such a great team.
“One of my career highlights was when I was awarded with the Volkswagen gold pin for sales excellence and was able to visit the manufacturer’s global factory in Wolfsburg, Germany.
“Everyone keeps telling me how impressive 40 years is, but to me I have always enjoyed the industry so this job is perfect for me.”
Colleagues and managers of Corkills Volkswagen presented Glyn with a commemorative pen to celebrate his ongoing commitment to the business.
Corkills Volkswagen’s brand manager, Jacqui Kaye, said: “We feel honoured to have such an experienced and dedicated gentleman in our team.
“Everyone is delighted that Glyn wishes to continue his career with us; his knowledge and expertise make him the perfect asset to the business.”
