Five energetic employees from Persimmon Homes Essex were put through their paces recently, raising money for Havens Hospices by taking part in their annual ‘Havens to Havens Walk’.
Based at the company’s head office in Witham, the five women together raised £500 and Persimmon Homes Essex showed its support for the cause and its employees by match funding their donations making a grand total of £1000.
The charity walk, now in its fifth year, saw Persimmon Homes colleagues Danielle, Sara, Terri, Kim and Amie take on the circular 10 mile route through lush woodlands in Thundersley and historic South Essex, starting and ending at Little Havens Hospice.
Havens Hospices provide much needed support and respite for adults, children and their families who are affected by life-limiting illnesses. They aim to make life comfortable and every day count for those that need specialist care, but also include support services for families and friends.
Kim Ward, sales manager at Persimmon Homes Essex, said: “We are delighted to offer our support to Havens Hospices as the only place in the area wholly dedicated to looking after those with a life-limiting illness, and are really pleased with the £1000 we have raised overall.
“At Persimmon Homes we are encouraged to get involved with local good causes both where we live and where our developments are based. The walk provided a fun and family day out for the girls in the office whilst providing vital funding to those that need it in the community.”
Havens Hospices Events Fundraiser, Laura Hyde, said: “We cannot thank the ladies from Persimmon Homes enough for their fundraising effort in the Havens to Havens Walk. It takes millions of pounds each year to continue our work and we rely on such generosity from the local community at various fundraising events throughout the year.”
Open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to emergency referrals it cost £2.4 million in 2012/13 to continue the unique services provided by Havens Hospices which are entirely free of charge to those in the region.
