A charity golf day raised over £5,000 for a good cause in West Yorkshire.
Leading local housebuilder, Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire, organised the event to raise money for the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, an organisation that supports children with life limiting conditions and their families.
The event, held at the luxury Garforth Golf Club in Leeds involved golfers from businesses in and around West Yorkshire with 21 teams taking part in the tournament. Independent builder’s merchants, AW Lumb, based in Dewsbury, beat off stiff competition to be crowned as the champions.
On winning Darren Ward of AW Lumb said: “We were delighted to take part in the event and feel very proud to be part of the winning team. We were up against some great golfers so it’s a real achievement to have come out on top.
“It was a great day, and the fact that the money raised will support the Forget Me Not children’s Hospice makes even more worthwhile.”
Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire was represented by Managing Director Wayne Gradwell, Sales Director Simon Whalley, Construction Manager Matthew Oldfield and Buyer Neil Price.
Speaking of the event, Wayne said: “It was fantastic to be involved the tournament and raising £5,084 is a real achievement. The money will help to support Forget Me Not who do such amazing work across the region. Their work is essential to the children and families that they support and we are extremely proud to be associated with them.”
Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice was launched 12 years ago by a mother whose son required hospice care. In October 2012 a hospice-at-home service was launched to support children and families.
Fundraising manager for Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, Kate Goldring, said: “We are delighted with and on-going support shown by the employees of Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire.
“The families we care for are ordinary people dealing with extraordinarily difficult circumstances. All of the children we help will have conditions which will, sadly, significantly shorten their lives. However, with the help of Persimmon Homes we now have opportunities to support children and their families for many years, possibly until the child is a teenager or even a young adult.”
Wayne added: “I would like to thank all the participants and contributors for their generosity and Garfourth Golf club for hosting such a wonderful event.”
Persimmon Homes has developments in across Yorkshire, with brand new sites in Bradford, Leeds, Morley, Hipperholme, Garforth and Thurcroft.
