A Halesowen technician has been crowned Apprentice of the Year by a national commercial vehicle manufacturer.
Scott Hansford claimed the Commercial Vehicle and Volkswagen Group title after achieving consistently high grades in his three year apprenticeship.
The 21-year-old joined Volkswagen Van Centre Birmingham in 2007 and completed the intensive training programme through the Volkswagen Training Academy.
Every stage of his apprenticeship was closely monitored which resulted in Scott receiving national recognition and praise from the Volkswagen Group.
Scott beat over 300 other candidates to claim the award and is now focusing on gaining further qualifications to enhance his expertise.
Scott said: “I’m delighted to have qualified and honoured to have gained this recognition for my apprenticeship.
“I’m really grateful to Volkswagen Van Centre Birmingham for supporting me through the training programme and for recognising my potential in this trade.”
Volkswagen Van Centre Birmingham’s general manager, Mark Woodhouse, said: “Scott has worked extremely hard to gain this qualification and rightfully deserves to be named Apprentice of the Year. It’s an amazing result.
“Scott now has the training in place to really thrive as a technician and we will continue to support him throughout his career.”
It costs over £40,000 to train a candidate to technician status with further investments to qualify the master technician level.
