A leading Swansea car retailer is celebrating after selling the first electric e-up! in Wales.
Wales’ largest Volkswagen retailer, Sinclair Volkswagen Swansea on Langdon Road, was one of just a handful of retailers selected from the Volkswagen network in the UK to pilot the e-up! earlier this year.
First customer, Dr Rowland Jenkins from Langland, opted for the electric e-up! after being advised by his son, Andrew, that electric powered cars are the driving experience of the future.
After a great deal of research into the various brands and models available on the electric car market Dr Jenkins ordered his silver e-up! at Sinclair Volkswagen and just three weeks later he collected his brand new car.
Speaking of his purchase Dr Jenkins said: “I couldn’t be happier with my e-up! it ticks all the boxes and is exactly what I was looking for. I needed an economical second car suitable for driving in the city with the build quality that I expect from a quality brand like Volkswagen and now all I need to do is plug in and go!
“The car itself is surprisingly nippy with rapid acceleration from 0-30mph and lots of space inside, particularly in the driver’s cabin. One of my favourite features is the regenerative braking which allows complete control of the speed of the car with one pedal.”
Having driven Golfs for over thirty years Dr Jenkins is no stranger to the brand but says that he has now been converted after driving the compact e-up!

The e-up! is a positive step forward for electric cars, and being modelled on an existing model means that it doesn’t look like a futuristic space ship that immediately draws attention to the fact that it is an electric car. Subtle modifications offer the best of both worlds, economical eco friendly driving with the power and convenience for city travel.
Dr Jenkins said: “It really is the perfect second car and has drawn a lot of attention from my friends and neighbours who are keen to find out more. My wife, Meidwen affectionately calls it our Gee-up!”
