A leading West Midland sight loss charity is urging people returning from their summer holidays to donate unused foreign currency to help raise funds.
Beacon, based in Sedgley in Wolverhampton, are welcoming donations of foreign cash which they can recycle to raise vital funds to help support visually impaired people in the region.
“If you’ve returned from holiday with coins and notes you can afford to donate, then please think of Beacon,” said Kelly Vickers, from Beacon.
“An estimated sixty per cent of UK holidaymakers will bring home spare foreign change that will end up languishing in a drawer somewhere and never used, so we’re urging people to donate it to us instead where we can make good use of it.
“We accept any currency, however obscure — even defunct pre-euro currencies such as old Spanish pesetas or the French franc can be recycled.”
Collection points can be found at all seven Beacon charity shops across the region in Wolverhampton, Bilston, Bloxwich, Wednesbury, Cannock, Halesowen and the centre on Wolverhampton Road East.
Kelly added: “As well as coins, there are a whole range of items that we can recycle to raise funds, including stamps, mobile phones, ink cartridges and even your old spectacles!
“Recycling your unwanted items rather than throwing them away not only helps protect the environment, but you’ll also be helping Beacon raise funds to support visually impaired people in your local area.”
Beacon helps people with sight loss in the West Midlands live fuller and more independent lives. The charity offers a full range of facilities and support to blind and partially sighted people, including a mix of residential services, day care and practical advice on living with sight loss.
