A fundraising team from one of the Midlands’ most successful house builders aims to raise thousands of pounds for a local children’s hospice.
The team of workers at Persimmon Homes South Midlands are swapping their suits for trainers as they prepare to run their first half marathon to raise money for Acorns Children’s Hospices.
With their training regime at its peak the five plucky runners have also joined the Acorns Super League to motivate themselves and their friends and family to support them through the challenge to run Bupa Great Birmingham 13.1 mile course on 19th October.
Colleagues Amanda Rogers, Joe Turner, Fiona Breslin, Richard Price and Tom Martin are no strangers to running for charity having taken part in the Stratford 10K in September 2013 to boost last years’ fundraising for Acorns to £10,000.
Acorns support and care for life-limited and life-threatened children and their families across the heart of England both in their homes and in the three hospices, situated in Birmingham, Walsall and Worcester. It costs £750 per day for each child’s care and Acorns relies on the community to fund over 70 per cent of its activities.
The team has set up a giving page where donations can be made securely online here.
“This is an incredibly worthwhile cause that desperately needs our support and we want to do everything we can to raise as much money for it as possible,” said Amanda Rogers.
“We are all training as hard as possible and looking forward to what should be a really fantastic day. I am sure there will be times during the training and the run itself when we wonder what we are doing, but the knowledge that we are helping fund such an important charity will help drive us on.”
Andy Peters, managing director at Persimmon Homes South Midlands, commented: “We are extremely proud of our team of runners and look forward to supporting them as they cross the finish line on 19th October.”
