Staff at a Yorkshire-based housebuilder used their annual summer party to raise thousands of pounds for charity.
Persimmon Homes Yorkshire, based in Fulford, helped to raise over £6,000 for St Leonard’s Hospice.
Employees contributed to the fund raising effort by taking part in a silent auction, tombola, raffle and ‘dress down’ days. The total was then boosted further by a donation from Persimmon Plc.
Persimmon Homes Yorkshire’s deputy managing director, Simon Usher, was delighted that so many people attended the event helping to make it such a success.
He said: “Our summer party is a small way of saying thanks to our Yorkshire office and Plc employees for all their hard work over the year and we were delighted that so many family members were able to attend.
“We were very grateful to many of our suppliers and employees for generously donating to the auction, raffle and tombola. We had some amazing prizes including a Fortnum & Masons hamper and Apple iPads, which certainly helped boost our funding raising total.
“The work of St Leonard’s Hospice is so valuable and it’s reassuring to know they are there, should we ever need them. This is why we wanted to show our support.”
In addition to the fund raising activities, there were children’s fancy dress competitions, a bouncy castle, giant garden games, a coconut shy and a welly wanging competition, as well as a performance by a local jazz duo.
Sue Miller, Fundraising Manager at St Leonard’s Hospice said: “We are absolutely delighted that Persimmon chose their family summer party to help raise funds for the hospice.
“At St Leonard’s we provide specialist palliative care and support for local people with life threatening illnesses. Our care is free of charge to patients and their families but not free to provide so as a charity we rely heavily on the generosity of companies like Persimmon to help raise the £4 million it costs each year to run the hospice.
“Every penny they have raised will to go towards making a patient’s life, or that of their family, more comfortable.”
