Competition was hot at the Oriental Cookery Young Chef of the Year competition for our client Wing Yip this week.
In the week where we celebrated Chinese New Year, a talented 22-year-old, Gemma Field, was crowned champion after a tense ‘Masterchef’ style kitchen battle. Gemma scooped a working holiday to Hong Kong as part of her prize.
The 15 finalists prepared two Asian-inspired courses in the specialist competition kitchens at University College Birmingham.
Putting the young chefs through their paces were Peter Griffiths, head judge and President of the British Culinary Federation, Michelin-starred chef Glynn Purnell and Larkin Cen, 2013 MasterChef finalist and director of Asian food innovation Hokkei.
